Our experiences - Araucanas are striking birds but they do take quite a time to fully mature. Chicks are very cute of course but are quite neurotic and flighty but very placid once caught.
We have found them easier to hatch under broody Pekin Bantams than using our incubator. We have Lavender and Black Araucanas.
Not a breed for novices.
Araucana - Great striking birds to look at, they are an ancient breed dating back to the 16th century however the lavender Araucana was reported to have been developed in Scotland in the 1930's.
2 varieties being rumpless [without a tail] and tailed.
At Craftyjane we also keep and breed - Sulmtaler Bantam, Pekin Bantam, Belgian Barbu Duccle, Poland, Maran, Orpington, Hybrids. All in Buxted Uckfield East Sussex.
