This is a 'true bantam' meaning that there is no direct large fowl equivilent. These birds have feathered feet which do need protecting from becoming compacted with mud, but otherwise a fairly low maintenance bird. Plenty of colours always available and unless you intend showing then even more colour varieties are to be had.
Our experiences - Although peoples tastes differ greatly, how could anyone resist the Pekin Bantam? These delightfull friendly and soft birds make ideal pets and are great for children.
Handled well as chicks these will form part of your family and will happily sit on your lap and be cuddled.
The cocks are also very sweet natured and 'active' so obtaining hatching eggs rarely a problem.
They are a cheeky breed and full of personality.
The hens have a habit of going broody, however we use this to our own advantage and use them to hatch a variety of eggs of different breeds. Thay make excellent mums and probably the best way of raising chicks.
At Craftyjane we also keep and breed - Araucana, Sulmtaler Bantam, Belgian Barbu Duccle, Poland, Maran, Orpington, Hybrids. All in Buxted Uckfield East Sussex.
